Guthrie case investigators question neighbors about any internet issues on the night she disappeared

Following Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, law enforcement has sought input from local residents, inquiring about potential internet anomalies during the critical hours. On Thursday, both the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI conducted door-to-door surveys in the Catalina Foothills of Tucson, Arizona, focusing on connectivity disruptions. Multiple homeowners reported that the agents specifically asked if they had experienced any problems with their internet service the night Guthrie went missing.

According to residents, investigators mentioned that several individuals in the vicinity noted internet glitches on that date. Two homeowners revealed that the agents also requested details about video footage captured on Jan. 11. However, authorities have not officially stated whether they are examining that specific day for clues. Three other residents told NBC News they were asleep or away when Guthrie vanished, making it difficult to confirm any internet issues.

A couple residing next to Guthrie’s home shared an unusual observation. They claimed one of their Ring cameras displayed a “not available” message during the abduction timeframe, which did not occur with their other devices. The couple described the incident as “uncanny,” as they had never encountered the warning before. They emphasized the timing of the glitch seemed suspicious. NBC News has contacted Ring for further clarification.

“That’s really weird, isn’t it?” the couple remarked.

Despite the internet angle, the FBI and sheriff’s department have not yet commented on the significance of the connectivity issues. Earlier this week, when asked about the possibility of a Wi-Fi jammer being used by the suspect, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos responded: “I’ve not looked at that closely, but yeah, I know that my team has reviewed it with the FBI from every angle.”

Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was last seen around 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 31 after dinner with her daughter Annie. She was reported missing on Feb. 1 when she failed to appear at a friend’s house for a livestreamed church service. Authorities believe the case involves a kidnapping or abduction, though details remain scarce.

Earlier this month, the FBI released footage and images of an armed, masked individual wearing gloves near Guthrie’s home during the early hours of her disappearance. The suspect is described as a man of average build, measuring between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, carrying a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack.

Savannah Guthrie, currently on leave from the TODAY show, visited the New York City studio last week. She stated her intention to return to her role, though her focus remains on supporting her family and aiding in Nancy’s recovery. The Guthrie family announced a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy’s safe return, alongside offers from the FBI and Crime Stoppers.
