Max Verstappen gets British journalist THROWN OUT of a press conference after taking exception to his questions and ‘stupid grin’ last year

Max Verstappen kicks British journalist out of press conference during heated exchange

During a recent press conference ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix, Max Verstappen abruptly dismissed a British journalist from the Red Bull hospitality area. The four-time world champion repeated the command three times, stating, “I’m not speaking before he leaves,” as the reporter attempted to ask questions.

Outburst linked to past disagreement in Abu Dhabi

The tension between Verstappen and the journalist, Giles Richards of the Guardian, stemmed from a conflict in December 2025 during the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi. At that time, Verstappen had lost his fifth consecutive title to Lando Norris by two points. Richards had previously questioned whether Verstappen’s decision to collide with George Russell in Spain, which cost him nine points, was a factor in his title loss.

Verstappen had responded with frustration, saying, “You forget about all the other stuff that happened in my season. The only thing that you mention is Barcelona. I knew that would come. And you are giving me a stupid grin now. It is part of racing. You live and learn.”

At the latest conference, Verstappen noticed Richards seated among the media and immediately ordered him to leave. As the journalist picked up his recording equipment to exit, he quipped, “Seriously?” The exchange escalated briefly, with Richards reiterating, “You want me to leave? It’s just the question I asked you in Abu Dhabi? About Spain?”

After a 30-second confrontation, Richards departed the room, shaking his head. Verstappen then addressed the remaining journalists for the following ten minutes, proceeding without interruption.
