US President Donald Trump escalated tensions with Iran by posting a fiery message on his social media platform, warning of catastrophic consequences if the country didn’t unblock the Strait of Hormuz by a specified deadline. The post, filled with strong language, included a promise to target Iran’s power plants and bridges, framing the deadline as a critical moment for retaliation.
Following the recovery of a second US fighter jet crew member from hostile Iranian territory, Trump’s threat gained attention. The incident involved the downing of an F15 aircraft, where both crew members ejected, with the pilot rescued quickly. The remaining serviceman was located in a rugged region of southwestern Iran, prompting urgency from both sides.
Iran’s actions had already disrupted global oil flows, prompting a sharp rise in prices and inflation concerns. Trump had previously set March deadlines for Iran to reopen the strait, and the current ultimatum followed months of military exchanges. The US and Israel had been conducting strikes, which Iran retaliated against by attacking Gulf allies. The latest strike targeted the Qasem Soleimani international airport in southwestern Iran on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Israel conducted strikes on Iranian civilian infrastructure, including a petrochemical facility. Defense officials noted that additional energy targets were planned for the next week. The conflict also saw Iranian drones and missiles hitting Israeli and US Gulf allies, with a missile strike on Haifa causing injuries. Fires broke out in Abu Dhabi’s Borouge facility due to debris from an Iranian missile, and Kuwait reported severe damage to oil infrastructure.
Industrial sites and fuel plants in Bahrain were also targeted, underscoring the widespread impact of the escalating tensions. As the standoff continued, the stakes for both nations grew, with the Hormuz Strait remaining a focal point of geopolitical pressure.
