Four Teens Arrested in Connection with Fatal Stabbing of 16-Year-Old Boy

Cambridgeshire Police confirmed the arrest of four teenagers following the death of a 16-year-old boy who was stabbed during an attack in Riseholme, a neighborhood close to the Ortongate Shopping Centre in Peterborough. The incident was reported shortly before 7:00 PM BST on Sunday, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the injury. Authorities suspect the attack was not random, emphasizing that it was a targeted event.

The St John’s Church School, located nearby, announced its closure as a result of the “serious incident.” In an email shared with the BBC, the school stated that police were conducting operations near the premises, leading to the decision to shut down temporarily. The message also noted that updates regarding the reopening would be provided to families and caregivers.

Arrests and Charges

Two individuals, a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, both from Peterborough, have been detained on murder charges. Additionally, two female students aged 16 and 17 were arrested for allegedly aiding the offender. The 16-year-old girl, from March, was also charged with possessing a sharp object.

Police continue to hold all the suspects in custody while further inquiries are underway. A photograph captured the scene on Sunday night, showcasing a large number of officers stationed near the Ortongate Shopping Centre. The area remains under a police cordon as of Monday, with heightened surveillance expected in the coming days.

“This tragic event has led to the loss of a young man’s life, and we are actively communicating with his family,” said Det Ch Insp Richard Stott from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit. “Although the death will undoubtedly affect the community, we are confident this was a deliberate act, not a random occurrence.”

The shopping centre is currently operating without disruption, though the rear car park has been closed off. Residents and visitors have left floral arrangements near the cordoned area, symbolizing their support and condolences. The police have requested anyone with relevant information or home CCTV footage to come forward.
