‘More Than A Feeling’ Boston Frontman Tommy DeCarlo Dies at 60
Tommy DeCarlo, the lead vocalist of the American rock band Boston, has passed away at the age of 60 after a prolonged battle with brain cancer. His wife, Annie, and their children Talia and Tommy Jr. announced his death on Monday, 9 March, through posts on his Facebook and Instagram profiles. They expressed,
“He fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end.”
Tribute to the Late Singer Brad Delp
DeCarlo, who was 43 at the time, worked as a store employee at a Home Depot in North Carolina when he created a heartfelt tribute to Brad Delp, Boston’s original singer, who had died by suicide on 9 March 2007. The song, along with several covers of Boston’s hits, was uploaded to his Myspace page and shared with the band. Founding guitarist and songwriter Tom Scholz, moved by the tribute, invited DeCarlo to perform at a memorial event for Delp and later extended an offer to join the group.
Legacy and New Projects
DeCarlo became a permanent member of Boston, performing with the band for almost two decades. His contributions included vocals on their 2013 album, Life, Love and Hope. Beyond Boston, he formed a separate band with his son, Tommy DeCarlo Jr., releasing two albums: Lightning Strikes Twice in 2020 and Dancing In The Moonlight in 2022. The band’s self-titled debut album, released in 1976, remains a defining work of 1970s rock, with over 17 million copies sold in the U.S. and at least 20 million globally, cementing its status as one of the best-selling debut albums of all time.
