Iranian Defence Chief Who Issued Sinister Warning to Trump Is Killed in Airstrike
Last night, an Iranian official known for delivering a stark message to Donald Trump has been killed in an Israeli airstrike. This comes shortly after the individual had warned the U.S. president of potential retaliation for his threats against Iran.
Israel Confirms Targeting of High-Profile Iranian Figures
The Israeli Defense Forces confirmed that their strike targeted Ali Larijani, the Supreme National Security Council Secretary. The attack also resulted in the death of the head of the Basji paramilitary group, according to official statements.
“The nation of Iran is not afraid of your empty threats. Even those bigger than you could not eliminate the Iranian nation. Watch yourselves, or you might be eliminated!”
Larijani was a key member of the interim leadership council, which played a role in selecting Ali Khamenei’s successor. His death has been described as a significant blow to Iran’s strategic framework.
Separately, the Basij force—a specialized unit within the Iranian Revolutionary Guards—was also eliminated in the strike. This group has historically been deployed to quell protests and maintain order within the Islamic Republic.
While General Gholam Reza Soleimani was reported killed on Monday, Iran initially withheld confirmation of his death. The U.S. Treasury records Soleimani’s birth year as 1965, and he has faced sanctions from multiple nations for his role in suppressing dissent.
Successor Faces Trauma and Medical Evacuation
Mojtaba Khamenei, the eldest son of the former Ayatollah, was named as Soleimani’s successor. However, he narrowly escaped death in a U.S. airstrike and was reportedly evacuated to Russia for urgent medical treatment.
Kuwaiti outlet Al-Jarida claimed Khamenei was rescued from a bunker strike that killed his wife, mother, father, and son. The report states he was secretly flown to Moscow for life-saving procedures, with sources suggesting the operation was conducted in one of Vladimir Putin’s presidential residences.
Details of his injuries vary, from a broken foot and minor facial cuts to more severe conditions like a leg amputation or a coma. Despite U.S. reports of his demise, Khamenei recently issued a fiery statement calling for vengeance against the U.S. and its allies.
Iran’s Defense Ministry has affirmed Khamenei’s survival, countering claims of his death after Trump suggested he was not alive. The incident underscores the volatile political landscape and the personal risks faced by Iranian leadership.
