Couple in court after boy, 13, dies in crash
Couple Faces Legal Proceedings Following Tragic Collision
Jamie Fountain, 24, and Ellie Ireland, 23, have been brought before a magistrate in Luton following a fatal accident in Flitwick, Bedfordshire. The incident occurred at 23:50 BST on Friday, resulting in the death of 13-year-old Noah Campbell. Two other teenagers were severely injured and hospitalized as a result of the collision involving a car, a bicycle, and a scooter.
The pair, who are in a relationship, were charged with multiple offenses linked to the crash. Fountain, a groundworker, was operating a BMW at the time and faces charges including causing death by careless driving, both while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. He is also accused of causing serious injury through careless driving, failing to stop at the scene, and not reporting the accident. Ireland, an EasyJet cabin crew member, is charged with conspiracy to obstruct the judicial process.
Both defendants were granted custody until their next court appearance on 5 May at Luton Crown Court. Their families were in attendance during the hearing, as were representatives of Noah’s loved ones. Police noted that one of the injured boys remains in critical condition, while the other has been discharged from the hospital.
“Noah was a fun, bright, handsome, athletic boy who was incredibly well-liked,” said a family member in a statement released by the police.
The case has drawn attention to the circumstances surrounding the accident, with authorities investigating the actions of both drivers. Updates on the incident will continue to be shared through BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
