Woman Accused of Shooting at Rihanna’s L.A. Home Charged with Attempted Murder
A Florida woman, Ivanna Ortiz, 35, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly opening fire on Rihanna’s Los Angeles home with an AR-15-style rifle, according to Los Angeles County prosecutors. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Beverly Crest neighborhood, where Ortiz was identified as the suspect by law enforcement.
Ortiz faces multiple additional charges, including assault with a firearm, semiautomatic weapon offenses, and shooting into an occupied building. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office added special allegations to each count, such as the personal discharge of a firearm and its use during the attack.
Victims and Legal Proceedings
District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that the charges relate to 10 individuals: Rihanna, her partner A$AP Rocky, their three children, three household staff members, and two residents of a neighboring residence also targeted. Despite the violence, no injuries were reported during the incident.
“We intend to convict Ms. Ortiz of all charges … beyond a reasonable doubt,” Hochman declared during a news conference outside the downtown L.A. courthouse.
A court hearing took place Tuesday, during which Ortiz’s arraignment was scheduled for later this month. Her bail was set at $1.875 million, though it remains unclear if she has hired a legal team. The county public defender has not yet responded to inquiries about her representation.
Shooting Details and Capture
Los Angeles police confirmed the attack was carried out using an AR-15 rifle. A gate on the property was reportedly damaged during the incident. Ortiz was apprehended in Sherman Oaks after officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s. She was taken into custody during a traffic stop.
State records indicate that a woman named Ivanna Ortiz is a licensed speech-language pathologist in Florida. An arrest affidavit cited a 2023 episode of violence from her divorce, noting she allegedly sent a message to her ex-husband: “You’ll be socked on the nose tonight” after he dropped off their children at her apartment. A cellphone video from the confrontation reportedly shows Ortiz using a homophobic slur against him.
The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation. Hochman revealed that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were in an Airstream camping trailer on the property at the time of the attack, which was one of three dwellings targeted during the incident.
