Qatar PM after Gulf energy attacks: ‘This war must be stopped immediately’

Rising tensions have gripped the region following recent strikes on energy infrastructure. Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani expressed urgency for an immediate halt to the conflict, emphasizing the need for clarity on who stands to gain most from the ongoing hostilities.

This war must be stopped immediately, because everyone knows who is the biggest beneficiary and the cause of the conflict.

The leader of Qatar accused Iran of escalating tensions by targeting energy facilities across Gulf states. This comes after Israel struck Iran’s main natural gas field on Wednesday, prompting a swift Iranian retaliation that included missile attacks on sites in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar’s Ras Laffan hub. Al Thani condemned the assault on Qatar’s energy infrastructure, labeling it a deliberate act of sabotage.

We touched on the attack that took place yesterday at the Ras Laffan energy facility. Unfortunately, this act of sabotage reflects nothing but an aggressive and irresponsible policy, and a dangerous escalation by the Iranian side.

Al Thani noted Qatar’s swift condemnation of the Israeli strike on Iran’s facilities, yet Iran’s response targeted the country directly. The conflict has disrupted critical energy supply chains, with Ras Laffan serving as the world’s largest liquefied natural gas export hub. Damage there has already begun to affect global markets, driving European gas prices to their peak since the crisis began three weeks ago.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed Israel acted independently in the strikes, while Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan attributed the conflict to a broader threat to regional stability. Fidan highlighted ongoing diplomatic efforts, with Turkish mediators engaged in talks with both Iran and the United States to ease tensions. He reiterated that international consensus supports an end to the war.
