Tiger Woods says he’ll seek treatment after DUI arrest in Florida
Tiger Woods Announces Treatment Plans Following Florida DUI Charge
On Tuesday, Tiger Woods revealed his intention to undergo treatment after being charged with driving under the influence following a collision on Jupiter Island. The incident, which involved a rollover, has prompted the golfer to take a proactive approach to his health, as outlined in a social media statement.
“This step is crucial to prioritize his health and achieve a sustained recovery,” Woods, 50, stated. “I’m dedicated to investing the necessary time to return in a more resilient and focused state, both in my personal life and career.”
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Woods collided with a trailer on Friday afternoon while a truck was maneuvering into a driveway. The truck driver reported observing Woods driving at high speeds before attempting to avoid the collision by swerving. Despite this effort, the Land Rover struck the trailer, leading to an on-site arrest.
Authorities noted that Woods exhibited signs of impairment during the incident and had opioid pain pills in his possession. The report indicated he had taken the medication that morning. At the jail, he agreed to a breath test but declined a urine test.
Woods also told deputies he had glanced at his phone and was unaware the truck had slowed. This incident follows a previous DUI arrest in 2017, when he was found unconscious in his Mercedes-Benz 15 miles from his residence. A toxicology report from that time showed five drugs in his system, including painkillers and a sedative.
In 2021, Woods sustained serious injuries in a crash in California. Although he was speeding at double the posted limit in a 45 mph zone, he showed no visible signs of impairment and was not charged.
Tim Stelloh, a breaking news reporter for NBC News Digital, reported the details of the recent incident.
