Early Sunday morning in south Shreveport, Louisiana, a domestic dispute escalated into a deadly shooting that claimed the lives of eight children and left two others injured across three residences. The incident unfolded in the Cedar Grove neighborhood, with police responding to gunfire reports shortly after 6 a.m. CT. According to Shreveport police Cpl. Chris Bordelon, victims were discovered in two homes on West 79th Street and a third on Harrison Street.
Tragic Scene and Suspect’s Fate
The scene was described as extensive, with several children found deceased. Bordelon noted the presence of multiple victims, emphasizing the severity of the event. The suspect, who authorities believe is connected to some of the casualties, fled the scene in a vehicle and was pursued by police into Bossier Parish. After a short chase, officers shot and killed the individual.

“This is a tragic situation, maybe the worst tragic situation we’ve ever had in Shreveport,” said Mayor Tom Arceneaux.
“I just don’t know what to say, you know? My heart is just taken aback. I just cannot begin to imagine how such an event can occur,” remarked Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith.
Louisiana State Police are examining the officer-involved shooting, confirming no injuries were sustained by law enforcement. Meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed deep sorrow, stating, “We’re holding the victims, their families and loved ones, and our Shreveport community close in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”
